Beitrag von aditya0608 »

Hello All,

There is setting in "Stress Analysis" Tab 'Use alternative equations with ii and io from table H.3'.
In which situation i need to enable this option. with default this option is disabled.

Re: Alternative equation Table H.3

Hi

The EN13480-3 in appendix H has 3 tables for the SIFs: H1 H2 and H3. The H3 is a replacement for table H1 with stress intensification factors which are seperated into inplane (ii) and outplane (io) factors for Tees etc. Historically the H1 table is a copy from ASME B31.1 (power piping) and the H3 table is a copy of ASME B31.3 (process piping). The EN13480-3 does not give any hints on which table should be used under which conditions, so you are free to chose.
Some components only have SIFs in table H3 (weldolets) so for them you should chose this option "Use alternative equations with ii and io from table H.3."
Up to the edition 2017 the exact form of the equation when using the ii and io SIFs are not specified in the norm. With the new amendment EN13480-3 prA2 this will change. In the meantime the only indication on how to use the ii and io factors is given here:
SIFs_ii_io.PNG
This means that for the primary stresses the factor 0.75 was forgotten in the norm for the table H3, so the benefit of using the more detailed SIFs is again mostly lost for primary equations S1 and S2.
With the new amendment EN13480-3 prA2 this will be corrected.

Best regards
