Lateral expansion joints (Distance of bellows)

Hi

In the help file has written " The distance between the mid-point of the bellows will be inserted. For lateral expansion joints with just one bellow 1/3 of the total length must be given as substitute distance between the mid-point of the bellows."

I need to model one bellow lateral expansion joint and have some questions:

First question : this 1/3 means (0.3* total length) of the expansion joint?

Second: when I do that then Expansion joint look like two parted lateral expansion joints(two bellows). Is that correct?

Hi

The distance of the bellows for lateral expansion joints it only necessary for the case with 2 rods and the possibility of angular movement. In this case the angular spring rate is required (but usually not provided by the manufactures). It can be calculated from the lateral rate if th e bellow distance is known. In case of a singel bellow a good approximation of the effective bellow distance is 1/3 of the total bellow length.

Thanks for the reply.

So I will continue with this assumption of 1/3 of the total bellow length.
