How to model damping for transient analysis

Beitrag von claudio_mend »

Good afternoon,

I'm performing a dynamic analysis and would like to know where can I set an average damping for the system.

thank you very much for the attention.

Hi

In the case of modal time history you have the choice of constant damping or a mixture of mass and stiffness propotional damping (alpha + beta).

In case of ROHR2STOSS - direct integration time history - you can only specify mass and stiffness propotional damping (alpha + beta).
This is linked to the method (as in direct integration no frequencies are calculated, you cannot specify any damping as function of frequency).

Of course you have all the possibilites of damping due to viscous dampers, snubbers and friction on supports. In ROHR2STOSS you would use the global damping only to model the dissipation of the parts for which you did not specify a concentrated damping element in the model.
