Damper instead of rigid support that lifts?

Beitrag von pancevo »

Is it correct (possible) to change the rigid support (sliding support) which is lifting-off (upward loads) in temperature load cases into damper (1e+010 N/mm)?
Then to consider the effect of damper in loadcases Deadload and Pressure test, and not to be consider the damper effect in temperature load cases?

Hello,

a damper typically is used for dynamic loads (vibrations etc.) and supposed to not work for static loads.
What you are doing with your load case settings and the high spring rate of the damper is basically:

- Pretend the support works for the primary loads
- Pretend the support does not disturb the secondary loads/ thermal expansion

In reality however a lifting support does not carry any primary load in operation condition. Therefore you either have to delete/ move the support or you have to use a suitable type of support.
In case of lifting off supports you can use spring elements or constant elements. These supports carry the primary load also in operation conditions, as they will move with the pipeline.

Best regards,
